EARLY DAYS OF WEB DEVELOPMENT (1990s)

World Wide Web (WWW) was Web Development Company in USA created by Tim Berners–Lee in 1989 at CERN. Its primary goal was to fulfil the automated information-sharing needs of academics affiliated with institutions and various global organizations.

The first website was created by Tim Berners–Lee in the year 1991, which was a simple HTML page with hyperlinks to other pages. In the early days, HTML was the only language used for web development. In the nascent stages of the internet, web development primarily revolved around hypertext Markup language (HTML). Web pages were static, offering limited interactivity and design possibilities. Developers code each element manually, creating a straightforward yet limited online experience.

DYNAMIC WEB DEVELOPMENT (Late 1990s-Early 2000s)

A dynamic website is contrived to serve different content to different users based on various factors such as user preferences, selection, and time zone. A dynamic is designed by keeping functionality in mind, rather than the purpose of displaying information. Unlike a static website, which only uses client-side script languages, a dynamic web page is built using both clients as well as server-side scripting languages such as ASP, PHP, and JAVASCRIPT.

Dynamic website design is also very useful when one can have pages that are updated frequently with new information. However, the true strength of a dynamic site is its competence to be synergistic, which helps in tailoring the UX as one sees fit and adding widgets that allow for personalization, such as recently viewed items one may like in an e-commerce store.

AJAX and Rich Internet Applications (Early to Mid-2000s)

AJAX(Asynchronous JavaScript and XML) is a technique aimed at creating better and faster interactive web apps by combining several programming tools, including JavaScript, dynamic HTML (DHTML), and Extensive Markup Language(XML). In AJAX-enabled web pages, the browser makes an initial petition to the server for the page and then makes subsequent asynchronous requests to web services for data.

RIA (RICH INTERNET APPLICATION)

Rich Internet applications (RIA) are web applications that have the features and functionality of traditional desktop applications. RIA typically provides a ‘’no –refresh ‘’ look to the user interface. It provides HDuX-High Definition User experience. The term RIA was introduced in a white paper in March 2022 by Macromedia (now merged into Adobe). The concept had existed earlier under names such as:

  • Remote scripting, by Microsoft, circa 1999

  • X Internet, by Forrester Research in October 2000

  • Rich (web )clients

  • Rich web application.

WEB 2.0 (MID-2000s)

WEB 2.0 is the second stage of internet development that involves the evolution from basic, static web pages to increasingly dynamic pages with user-generated content. Like many technological concepts that have seemingly sprung out of nowhere, Web 2.0 has taken on a life of its own. It serves as a marker of change in the doctrine of web companies and web developers. It was a change as a web-savvy society as a whole. With Web 2.0, the Website enables community–based input, interaction, content sharing, and collaboration. It offers virtual as well as interactive apps, like online documents, cloud computing operations, pay-per-click ads, and video streaming.

MOBILE WEB DEVELOPMENT (LATE 2000S-PRESENT)

Mobile web development refers to the building of apps, building of websites that are perfectly suited for small devices like tablets and mobile phones. They are beneficial because they are separate entities from one's website, each time one app is downloaded, one receives a unique vote of confidence from the user. But apps as well as websites optimized for mobile usage have a lot more benefits than that.

PROGRESSIVE WEB APPS(PWAS)

Progressive web app (PWA) is an app that is built using web platform technologies, that provide a user experience like that of platform-specific apps. The most significant advantages of a PWA are its speed, the ability to work offline, and accessibility directly from the browser

CURRENT TRENDS AND FUTURE DIRECTION

In the future, web designers will have AI tools to make their job easier. These tools predict how users will behave on websites and customize the experience for them, which means designers can spend more time being creative and coming up with cool ideas to make the internet even better.
